February is Expect Success Month, and if there’s one thing I love, it’s making sure my clients—both two- and four-legged—have an experience that feels effortless, fun, and, most importantly, successful!
But what does success look like in a pet photography session? It’s not about a perfectly posed pup following a script (because let’s be honest—dogs have their own plans). It’s about capturing your dog’s true personality, whether they’re an energetic goofball, a dignified snuggler, or the world’s most enthusiastic stick collector. And to make that magic happen, I take steps before, during, and after your session to set everyone up for success.
My Pre-session game plan
Like a well-prepared pup packing for an adventure, I make sure I have everything I need before we even step into our session. That includes:
✔️ A fully charged camera (plus a spare battery, because I’m not about to miss an adorable head tilt).
✔️ Formatted memory cards, extra leashes, and a few secret attention-grabbing tricks up my sleeve.
✔️ Poop bags (because nature calls at inconvenient times) and a collapsible water dish.
✔️ A scouting mission if it’s a new location—because knowing where the best light is ahead of time makes all the difference!
✔️ A moment to breathe so that when you and your pup arrive, I’m bringing calm, confident energy that helps your dog feel comfortable right away.
How you can set your dog up for success
My goal is to make this as easy (and stress-free) as possible for you. That’s why I guide you every step of the way—starting with what to wear (yes, I want you in the photos too!), what to bring, and how to prep your pup. Here’s the inside scoop on how to make your session smooth and fun:
🐾 A clean dog is a happy dog! Brush them beforehand, but if they’re getting a professional groom, don’t book it the same day as our session. Too much excitement can leave them wiped out.
🐾 Treats + favorite toys = session success. Bring high-value treats and a beloved toy to keep your dog engaged and having fun.
🐾 Relax! If you’re worried about your dog “doing it right,” they’ll pick up on that energy. Instead, trust the process. I promise—no matter what they do, I’ll make magic happen!

Every dog has their own unique personality, and that’s what makes every session so much fun. From our very first consultation call, I get to know what makes your pup tick—whether that’s a game of fetch, a snuggle session, or an adventure through the tall grass.
Once we’re together, I keep things light, relaxed, and fun. That means plenty of breaks, tons of treats, and an easygoing approach that lets your pet just be themselves. If they prefer lounging to posing? Great. If they want to zoom around before settling? Love that journey for them. There’s no right or wrong—just real, beautiful moments that capture your pet’s true essence.

Success doesn’t stop when the session ends! Afterward, I celebrate every session in my own way (sunrise sessions = a coffee treat, sunset sessions = PJs and hot cocoa). But more importantly, I keep the excitement going for you—a sneak peek image will hit social media just days after our session, and your full reveal experience will happen the following week.
